Default narrowing 9in?

is it possible to narrow the 9in PAST stock, so that its shorter and i could use a wheel with less backspacing to get that deep dish look? and still use stock mounting points?

FYI
Moser will make you up a set of custom axles for about $350
Also, they offer narrowing of housings for $110. They are located in Indiana, shipping wouldn't be too bad for you. If you call up the tech line and get someone difficult to deal with, hang up and call again. One fellow I talked to was awesome, the other was a dud.

How narrow you can go will depend on your choice of rear brakes and wheels. Wait until you have all parts in hand before you make a choice on the rear end, I hate jumping on something only to mess it up.

Get the car and make your mind up on wheels and brakes before you cut anything.

Daze once cut a rearend. I think he welded 8" tubes to a 9" housing or something like that.
Anyways a 9" will not fit a 64-66 Mustang as the wheel distance is shorter.
I got a 9" housing that is fabricated for a 64-66 from eBay for a good price.
quick performance racing. I can give you contact if you want.
The problem is if you want deep deep dish you might even have to cut shorter which will give the next problem: what axles to fit in there without cutting.
Might even want to talk to quick performance racing. Maybe they've done it before.
At least i know that they are knowledgable when it comes to 64-66 and 9" rears ..

You can only cut an inch or two off before you run into leaf spring problems. Axles are no problem, places like moser and strange can mahe them to any length for a decent price. They have all the info for measurements on their websites. Your best bet is to get the car and tires you want and set them in place without wheels to see how much room you have.
Personally I like this look better
