Starter system issues... please help
Ok so heres the deal. I have a 1967 Mustang with a 1965 289 in it. The engine is a fresh build and runs very nicely. The problem is the ignition switch will not start the car, and when you jump it at the solenoid the car will not stop turning over. Even if the key switch is in the on position, rather than the start position, the starter will not stop turning.
The other day I decided to take the car to work, car was hesitant to start due to the cold and then all of a sudden i heard nothing but smelled an electrical burn.
When i got home i decided to do some work... I found a short from my transmission, to my neutral safety switch from the header, so i spliced in a new wire and bypassed the old one. this did nothing.
the car would start when i jumped the connection on the solenoid but not with the key so i picked up new solenoid and replaced that. That did nothing as well.
Then i decided to replace the ignition switch, figured it was friied, and that did nothing to fix the problem also.
After speaking with a few people i decided to replace the starter. I thought it might not be disengaging. But now i still find myself stuck with the same problem.
The car wont stop starting when the key is in the on position.
I have invested a bunch of money and a whole lot of time with no success and i am dumbfounded with what the problem could be. Any insight into this dilemma would be much appreciated. What should i do???? help!!!
Any one have a wiring schematic on .pdf or something?

yah. wrong wiring i'd say as well.
as from BA's post, here's the most important diagram:

i wrote an article with diagram once:
http://www.gascc.ie/index.php/compon...sues?showall=1
just for testing remove all cables at selonoid. then put the following back:
battery+ to left side of starter selonoid (as in diagrams above)
Right hand side of starter selonoid to starter (as in diagrams as well)
the cable from ignition switch to the "s" post of the starter selonoid (that's the inner left one). it should be red/blue and come from your neutral safety switch.
now try to start the car again. It might not run, but now your starter should only turn when you turn the key
let us know how you get on
