OK, how do I get the antenna off
65 coupe. Original antenna. I got the antenna off the base and when I took off the fender I just threaded it back through the fender hole. Now, it is just hanging there. I am getting ready to reinstall the fender but I need the antenna off for painting. Oh, and I don't want to lose the wire down in the fender. Need to the put the antenna back on after paint.

Hold the base and pull. I pulled mine off and it is still on the fender, just yanked straight up and it came off. It went over a solid stud and came right off. That might mean I broke it though... Can't hurt to try.
take the antenna wire off the back of the radio and remove the whole thing. then, before you put the fender back on, run a small piece of string that you can tape to a reachable place. then just use the string as a fish for the antenna wire. If you're not doing a concours resto, get a more modern antenna as FM antennas are a certain length to get the best reception

Good idea. Thanks. I can tape the string just under the antenna hole. It's not concours but it is original and the antenna will still be connected to the original AM only.

Well not that I am a professional but I think the trick is to put some oil on a soft cloth, place the cloth on the antenna base then slowly rub up and down on the shaft of the hard steel rod.........
