Default Bad Starter

I thought my starter went up. Spoke to my Brother in Law he said it could be a loose wire. He also said an old mechanics trick was to smack the starter with a hammer. So I played with all the wires and smacked it with a hammer.

Good news is she started.

Bad news is I don't know which thing fixed it.

I guess I won't leave home with out my hammer for a while.

lol thats how it works sometimes.... starters are easy to change if you don't have headers and most of em are only like 50 or 60 bucks with a lifetime warranty... sometimes its worth the piece of mind but i always say don't spend it if ya don't have to..

It was probably the hammer. Most things hit usually work. Float stuck, hit the carb, relay stuck, hit the starter relay. Seems like hitting things work.

Yeah, but that means the starter is getting ready to die, I'd be gettin a new one before it quits on ya.

I am going to clean and tighten all the wiring this weekend. I have a battery quick disconnect that I think may be the problem. My other problem is I have Clifford Headers on her. They need to come off to remove the starter. There is one header bolt that is almost impossible to remove. I think my mechanic puts it on a lift and has a 5 year old stick his little tiny hands up there to get it off.

My mother-in-law has very tiny hands that come in handy. It is about the only thing she is good for!

When I was younger and poorer I had a 68 with a three speed. I went about a month push starting her until I could afford a new starter.
