Default Rear Ride Height: 68 Coupe

This is a question specifically for 68 coupe owners with new leafs, and i suppose maybe 67 coupe guys too.

I would like to replace my saggy leafs but am trying to decide which of the 3 eye styles to go with.

If anyone with a 67/68 coupe has recently replaced their leafs, could you tell me the vertical distance from axle to fender and what type of leafs they are (standard, reverse, mid, 4, 4.5, 5) with the car on the ground.

Thanks

Jon

Great question, I have the same question. My next project on the 68 is replacing my sagging original leafs. I would like it to be pretty much level. I've heard that new leafs take awhile to 'settle in' and tend to start out a little high. True?

I'm planning on replacing my leaf springs also and was told, 4.5 leaf mid eye 1" drop springs by open tracker racing products.

On another note, if you don't mind me asking jonward786, are those torq thrusts chrome or polished???

Easy, john! I'll try to shoot some measurements tonight for you. I installed standard 4 leaf springs about 4 months ago and have probably less than 500 miles on them. I replaced the front coils at the same time and the car appears fairly level (both now and when installed.

Call these guys ( www.eatonsprings.com ) to get the correct spring for the correct hight and stance. They make the springs for most companies like NPD and such. Good people do deal with..

Here's my measurements. Keep in mind I didn't use a level, so there could be some rounding error...

I measure 14.5" from center of axle to fender (top of wheel well). From the ground to fender is 26". Gap between top of wheel and fender is 2".

I'm running standard eye, 4 leaf springs on a 67. Wheels are 205/70R14. Hope that helps.

I got an email response from Eaton detroit springs guy that said:

"the number of leaves and the position of the eyes have no bearing on how the car sits. Ride height is determined by the strength of the spring and the spring rate.

All we need to know is engine size and how much lower than stock height you would like the car to sit"

true?
