Default Can you adjust?

I think I may have figured out something on the Mustang.

At first I thought my front window was overlapping the rear quarter window when I closed the driver's door due to the door hinges needing new bushings.

But a friend after looking at the car for something unrelated suggested to me I might need to adjust my rear quarter window back a bit.

Is it possible to adjust the rear quarters and if so how do you do it?

Hammer. Right to the glass. It'll fit good.

Think I'll have to take a pass on that one.

Your door might be sagging from worn hinges, but once the door is closed, the worn pin in your hinge doesn't mattersince your door will be in the correct fixed position. Either your door or quarter windows are off if they are still overlapping.

I'm not sure about 66, but my 69 regulator is attached to slotted brackets to make adjustment possible. The slots are small, so you can't tell they're slots until you loosen the bolts. It's possible that both windows are off, so be sure to check carefully how the closed windows meet the roof. Also, if your windows are glued in and not bolted in, that is another likely problem. Good luck.

Also, you can rebuild worn hinges without replacing the entire hinge. They used to sell kits.

Thanks for the tips Carlos.

I have the hinge rebuild kit for one side but haven't had a chance to get to that just yet. The car was off the road last week for new floor pans / carpet. While we were at it we put on the exhaust I had purchased a couple months back and just for good measure I had my buddy paint the roof, trunk and back end to deal with some rust. The exhaust was off a '65 but it seems a bit larger then what I had by maybe a quarter inch and sure sounds a lot nicer. The bad news is that I sprayed it with high heat paint and you can tell when you drive much that the paint on the exhaust is still curing and smells a bit but that will wear off soon enough sort of like a rebuilt block with new high heat on it.

We also finally got around to getting some of the play out of the steering wheel and it sure drove a lot nicer today on the way to work :-)

My buddy had mentioned the quarter window being off as a possibility for the problem after he glanced at it without spending a ton of time or even more than five seconds for that matter. When I was getting in the car this morning I looked at the quarter window and it does seem to appear like it could go back some when it is closed. So next time I have that panel off the backseat I will see if I can adjust it...thanks for the advice.

The 1/4 window can be adjusted a little. I had to replace my mechanism and had to fine tune it a bit. Pull the panel off and you will see all the mounting bolts. Try loosening them and move the hardware around.
