Default I WANNA SUPERCHARGER

I live in Perth, Western Australia so G'day guys.

I would like to Supercharge my 68 Fastbck Shelby Restomod which it is fitted with a 1993 Windsor 302 efi Cobra motor, GT40 Heads, 1 inch spacer, MSD Ignition, Motec ECU, and a/c. I don't want to lose my beautiful Polished GT40 5.0lt HO Alloy Air Intake Manifold and cold air K+N filter with chrome pipes.

Consequently, I would like to fit a Supercharger to run off the belts and fit a pulley up front. My mechanic, who is highly qualified and works only on high perormance cars needs an open check book to fit a Supercharger. He says the problem is, my car and motor are different and the Superchrger, whichever one he orders will probably not fit and the car may require surgery or mechanical modifications. He says he can do it, no problem, but charge on an hourly basis.

Has anyone fitted a Superchager with the same car/motor/air intake cobination I have and if so what I would greatly appreciate any advice?

My email is roycasey21@bigpond.com if you prefer to use it.

Thanks, Roy

what is your compression ratio at right now?

if its too high, youll only be able to run a few pounds of boost. and in that case its not worth it at all.

Stock c/r is 9:1, iirc, and I believe the pistons are forged. If so, I bet he could get away with a vortech or paxton running low boost. I bet CPR will know for sure, when he sees this.

Vortech and procharger make kits for that engine. 8 lbs of boost will be no problem with correct timing for the fuel your using. The tricky part is fitting the inlet tube for your application...A coupe of us have done it with carbs and EFI.

Surgery to the car? I haven't heard of that before when fitting a supercharger other than possibly to the hood. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

Here is a picture of my engine. I have a Vortech VS2SQ blower that I put on a smaller pulley. It puts out 10lbs of boost. There weren't toooooo many modifications I had to do to make it fit. Well worth it as soon as the boost kicks in.

Thanks very much for your reply true66gt. I really appreciate your valued comment about the possibility of already having high compression ratio and I could be wasting my money. The motor is fresh only 5000 km on it and although I'm not real mechanically minded I believe it was bored over so presume it has high compression. I will check out your comments with mechanic. Thanks again. Roy
Oh by the way, that really is a smart Santa Clause.

G'Day LCC, Thanks for your reply. I believe there are many Superchargers on the market which will fit, thats not the problem. I am surprised to hear that you think the tricky part is fitting the inlet tube. I have a great pipe bending mob just up the road from me and I'm sure if I cant get the correct fitting stock tubes and I'm stuck they could manufacture something for me. I've had a look at your pics, (FM your motors clean) I would appreciate if you could look at my pic on profile and see if you think the Supercharger you have would fit into the available space espacially the distance from the motor to the fan and radiator. I see where you have your Supercharger is where my alternator sits, your alternator is on the other side. true66gt says I may not get that much more power if I already have high compression ratio. Do you rekon your Supercharger makes a lot more HP? I do have some more pics of the engine bay if its a help. See ya. Roy

Yeah..... its pretty fast although my number plate is BADAS and my car is black and looks real fast and mean so everybody expects my car to be the fastest on the planet (incuding me). Its embarassing to get wiped out by rice rockets with twin turbos. That gives me the woopsies. I hate loosing. I need more HP as I only have 260.
