Default new engine broken

Started my first rebuilt engine and a few minutes later bang and then the engine, stopped, no gas?.
So I checked and found that the eccenitic? was broken off,but still in the timing cover, I used a magnet and retrieved it out.
wht did it brake.
the eng. is a 5.0 with 65 timing cover.note the eccenitic was not round but 1/4 round.

Those are junk, use a full round steel 1 piece, long dowel pin.

i like the 2 piece rounds myself, seems like there should be less friction somehow.

if it just snapped, you wouldnt have to even change the oil cept for you'll probably get crap in the pan while cleaning up the timing cover gasket remnants

Theres your problem it is not made to run a pump.efi motors dont have the
eccentric to run a pump just need one of the other kind both will work
