Smile Is Electric Automatic Choke Correct?

The 1966 mustang I bought a few months ago has an electric automatic choke. The engine is a 2V 289 with automatic transmission. The carb visually looks to be the correct one. Car has a DSO code of Kansas City. The wiring to the choke looks kind of non stock. I was wondering if this car should even have an electric assist automatic choke vs a regular automatic choke.

doesn't sound original. would have expected autolite 2100 or 4100 with heat riser. (automatic choke alright but controlled by a choke stove coming from intake manifold)

The car does have an autolite 2100 carb on it. It has both the electric wire and the heat tube off the exhaust manifold going to the automatic choke. A little to much choke action I think.

No there is no electric choke on a 66 2v or 4v stock carb. (it uses a heat tube to the exhast manifold and the heater hose laying next to the choke housing to warm the bi-metallic).

Did the 66 Hi-Po motor have an elect choke as stock? Jus' wondering.

Anyway, choke action has always been a personal choice with people on both sides swearing by what they got. I love my elect choke, because it has always worked great. The best part is that I never try to drive the car unless the motor is properly wamed up (the auto choke basically won't let me, anyway).

Chester, I certainly don't want to have everything stock on my DD, or I would be driving on polyglass tires. If you are really concerned about being correct for your own satisfaction, fine, but if you drive the car a lot, consider installing (or leaving installed) modern upgrades like an elect. choke. You can always switch a part like that back if you're going to a show.

Welcome to the forum, btw. Post a pic.

If memory serves me write, the hi-po K code came with manual choke. Electric chokes were not used on Mustangs in the '60's.

My '70 CJ was also a manual choke from the factory.

can you take a picture of that?
it seems to me that someone left the original carb and just planted a new cylinder on it that is electric style. I never heard of a electric autolite 2100 ?!
take off aircleaner, take picture of carb from top, take one from the side where we can see the plastic cylinder and area as well as where the choke stove is coming out of carb and where it's going in. might give us an idea on what happened there

I've found multiple sources who sell the electric choke conversion. It's about $30. Sounds like someone may have done a rebuild in the past and did an upgrade.

if there is such a thing, then that's the most probable story of your carb
