Default drivetrain problems

My name is Roger and i am having a problem with my drivetrain. I have a 1965mustang with the straight 6 200 cid 3.3L motor, and a c-4 transmision. whenever I go to take off, the front of my car will jump up and grind a little bit near the center of the consel. I know it is in the middle because i put my hand there and i can feel the vibration and i can hear it. this happens only in first gear. if i give it too much gas it will do this but if i take off slow, it will be fine. i just had the tranny rebuilt as well. he gave me the wrong torque converter at first but i have the correct one now. my motor mounts and tranny mounts seem to be ok. any suggestions would help. thank you.

Roger

this may be something to discuss with your trans builder, appears to be a problem with the transmission at least i think

That really sounds like a motor mount problem. Find a friend and have him look under the hood at the mounts. Stand on the brake pedal, put the car in drive, and rev the engine. You should be able to see if one of the mounts separates.

+1.

If the person's a GOOD friend have him stand off to the side.

U-Joints are a slight possibility as well.

You always have some flex in your engine mounts, but sometimes this is enough for other components to hit the body if they are too close.
Check your exhaust, and see how much clearance there is to the body. Is it close enough that when the engine moves under acceleration it hits the body?
Also have a look at your throttle linkage rods. When you have the throttle pushed all the way, how close does the rod end up to the bell housing?

my oil breather seems to be hitting the underside of my hood. i now have scratches underneath my hood. fantastic. :\ hah could it be my tranny mount? it flexes but im not sure if it is broken (me and my father put a jack under the tranny to see how much it flexed)(note im 17). it flexed but it still jacked up my car. but i thank you all for the advice. it its very helpful. now if it is one of the mounts, would that explain the grinding? will the yoke of the drive shaft **** on side enough to make it grind?
or is the grinding from something else?

I'll take a wild guess here and say the grinding noise you are hearing is the oil breather hitting the underside of your hood. have you taken it off and checked to see if the noise is still there?

+1, dude, if the breather is hitting the underside of the hood, you have a broken mount. It may not appear to be broken, but when you take off hard it puts enough torque on the mounts to allow it to separate and twist up and hit the hood. $10 says its the drivers side motor mount.

My first impulse while reading just the first couple lines was the Tranny mount.

Post up what you find out!
