Default 1965 Master Cylinder Upgrade

Hello,

I've got a 6 cylinder '65 coupe with standard drum brakes, a fruitbowl, and brake lines that are in need of replacing.

I want to replace the fruitbowl with a dual bowl master cylinder, and replace all the lines.

Can I simply use a master cylinder and brake lines for a '67 to do this job?

Where would be the best place to source those parts?

Thanks,
Fred

You can use the '67 m/c, but you need to keep the pushrod. The lines you need to bend yourself. Any parts store should have plenty of hard lines available. I recommend Napa's poly-armor brake lines for easier kink-free bending.

Yes, buy a new M/C from Autozone. Fab your own brake lines.

I just asked this a couple days ago.

Napa carries them , or you can go this route: http://www.parts123.com/parts123/yb....Z5Z5Z50000016e

You can also get a dual bowl kit with the pre-bent lines from CJ Pony parts. I think it was ~$60.

You can use the prebent brake lines for your car, you will need to rebend them to make the mc connections, but the straight pieces from NAPA are much cheaper and require more work to get them perfect.

I would also go dual bowl, because if a line ruptures your not completely screwed.

this is why i just swapped my 65 over at thanksgiving. had a wheel cylinder leaking a little when there was heavy pressure on the peddle. drained the single bowl enough to where the peddle hit the floor the rest of the ride home (was just 2 blocks away from home though ha)

i ended up completely redoing the brake system pretty much.

thermoquiet shoes in the front
normal shoes in the rear
turned all 4 drums down
new prebent hardlines for the entire car
new hoses for the entire car (3)
new dual bowl MC
4 new wheel cylinders

only thing left was the spring kits & dist. block for th fluid

I would also add a booster while your at it, it makes a huge difference.
