Default Replacing Front Valence on a 66

I am replacing my front valence this week and I just wanted to know if there is anything that would help the process go alittle easier. I am guessing I need to remove the bumper first just go from there but I didnt know if any of you have more advice.

Thanks!

take bumper and bumper guards off first. when you put the valance on leave all the bolts loose until the end so you can center it. depending on what valance you got sometimes they are difficult to fit right. So mount it then pull the valance on each side and tighten it so it lines up right. Then mount the bumper then bumper guards. thats how i do it.

I never had to take the bumper off when I swapped my 67s valance out.

Pretty much just unplug bottom lights, there are I think 2 bolts under the bumper, and then 2 bolts on each side of the valance where it meets the fender.

EDIT: Forgot there are usually 2 bolt on the bottom also.

On my 65 it took a while because it had never been off. Frozen bolts. I ended up having to soak a couple with PB Blaster for a couple of days. I think the bumper guards bolt to the valance, don't they?

Yes, they use the bottom 2 and I think the 2 under the bumper.

I bought the original ford tooling valence so I am hoping it lines up pretty good and I also bought new bolts. I am going to take the bumpers off anyway because I am going to start stripping the car down to get ready for painting it soon.

I have the valence off and I am going to pull the bumper off as well. How difficult is it to put the bumper back on when the valence is on the car? I am going to have it painted together so I just want to make sure I wont have to pull the valence back off after it is painted to put the bumper on.

Thanks!

If you take the bumper off with the brackets bolted on it, it would be hard. What we did was take if off the brackets, left the brackets bolted the car, put the valance back on and put the bumper back on the brackets.

I have the new valance on with the fender to valence bolts not tight. There are 4 bolts that run across the top I believe but they are not matching up with the stone deflector above the valence. Do I just need to bend those until they match up?
