Default place marking

Ok, fair warning ahead of time but this might potentially be a "stupid question" but....

I finally found the piece of trim that goes where the dash pad meets up with the windshield. Apparently, they don't make this piece reproduction but I found a place that has a bone yard and they were selling media blasted / primed pieces off of old junkers.

One side, the holes lined up perfect. The other side was way off so I finally said screw it and carefully drilled new holes.

I need to take this piece off for a project but before I do I want to mark the windshield in some fashion to make the holes easier to line back up when I get around to the reinstall. I was thinking it would be easy enough to make a small mark on the windshield.

What can I use to make some small marks that can be cleaned off after all is done?

I thought about something simple like a sharpie marker but will I have any luck cleaning something like that off the glass later?

Lipstick, lumber crayon, or a make up pencil should all come off easy. Or put tape down first and then use a sharpie. You will probably need a razor blade to clean up the tape.

I figured it might come off with a bit of nail polish remover, rubbing alcohol, etc but I didn't think the wife would appreciate me testing the theory on her PT Cruiser's windows first, LOL!

Wax pencil should work.

Acetone removes most adhesives without even leaving a streak. I use it all the time to clean up after removing autocross tech inspection stickers (penny-sized stickies).

Probably not the hot tip for use on aftermarket tint though.

I ended up using a Crayola crayon that the boys had...they were coloring earlier this evening and it gave me the idea.

Tested it first and it doesn't rub off with a slight / accidental touch but if you get a rag and use slight elbow grease it comes off easy enough :-)
