cowl repair from the inside?
Has anyone done or have experience with repairing the cowl from inside the car/under the dash? There is a repair kit on Mustangs Unlimited: here but its not very descriptive on how it works. Will this kit work to seal the cowl vents from the inside of the car? Are there any other ways?

The link says something about having to remove the splash shields so that doesn't sound much to me like it is under the dash. Maybe behind the front fenders?
I saw a link on a different board a while back that someone is making a one piece cowl now days. That would sure cut down on the labor time if you could remove the whole piece then put in a new one. However, we all know how reproductions fit so who knows.

How bad are your cowls? Those plastic hats from MU are only good if you have minor rust directly around the base of the vent section. If you're cowl is rusted in other places, or if larger pieces are rusted from your vent "hats", then these won't work. They are installed by coating the upper side of the lip with sealant and shoving up in your existing vents.
I just finished mine, it was completely shot. They are right, if there is a lot of rust you are going to have to do something else. I was going to go with the repair panels and decided if I was doing almost the same work why not do the whole thing. I got mine from Laurel Mountian and it really fit very well. I was surprised. I paid just over 300 for it.
Here are some pics. Mine came as 2 pieces and I had to spot weld them together before welding the whole thing down in place. It just took time and was really not that difficult.

Wow, that was ambitious and a damn nice job! The only reproduction is made by Dynacorn, so it will be a decent fit. It is a lot of work and you have to be careful not to disturb your windshield, front fenders, and hood fit.
It makes no sense that these hats would require the removal of the splash guards. That would give you access to the exterior of sealed cowl sides but nothing else and would be nowhere near the hats.
I have them in my car, the just slide right up in the current opening, silicone the heck out of then slide them up. My cowling only had pinhole around the hats that why i chose this route. sealed up nice. I still have a small leak, but it takes 5 minuets of flooding the cowl with a garden hose to get the leak to come.
