As Aqua said plugs will be rough, at least 69 was the first year a big block wasnt an after thought as the shock towers are tapered towards the top. 67-68 are still really smallblock cars with FE motors shoehorned in. This is one reason I still run a 289.

Make sure you put big block springs up front since FE s are heavy, aluminum intakes and heads will help in shedding pounds. I assume you have an 8" rear end but that should hold up odds are better with an auto tranny. If manual trans you need different clutch linkage. Your radiator will be too small and so will your exhaust. FE manifolds are said to suck, but one of my first cars was a 69 Galaxie XL 390 2v single exhaust and could beat my friends 69 SS396 Chevelle. BTW my 67 FB 289 is faster than my other GM driving friends 67 LeMans wiith a 396, Though I think he doesnt have it right(over carbed).

I say go for it I am considering the same thing but money is holding me back right now since it will cost about 3 grand, 500 for parts to convert and 2500 for a new 4x4 that will donate the engine. My 390 is originally from a 64 Mercury marauder 10.5to 1 comp borred 60 over 406 cid and is not being used to its potential in a 72 F250fwd as the truck is geared so low a six would be the same. I almost forgot if you dont have disc brakes I would comvert that too. Good luck and have fun doing it, it will be worth it.

Okay, thanks for all the info. I however have a 9 inch rear end and I wanna get a B & M C4 tranny. I wanna use either a 390 427 or 428 CJ and I know plugs will be rough but will I be able to use headers and aftermarket heads and still have clearance. Also, I need a high performance fuel pump for it, got any ideas anyone?
