Default c4 questions

I've got a 65 mustang with a c4, i'm draining the transmission, and checking out the valve body as my first gear won't work. my question is can you drain the torque converter in a 65' c4? i know most transmissions you can't but that some you can. one other question is can anyone suggeset where to find a new valve body gasket and where to find a magnet for the transmission pan as mine is missing.
thanks in advance

Yes you can drain the converter. You should be able to buy a paper and rubber seal kit from any transmission shop in your area. They're fairly cheap. You may want to check your governor to see if its sticking if you dont find the problem in the valve body.

yes you will need to turn the engine slowly until you see the plug. It takes a 7/16ths socket to remove the plug.

While you have it out, why not put in a shift kit. It'll have all the gaskets and a little fun factor as well.

Are you sure 1st gear isn't working? Do you have the green dot transmission with two drives.. first is winter driving no 1st gear second is normal 1,2,3...

yeah actually i had been driving it quite awhile not realizing i was in winter gear but when i did put it in the right gear i didn't have 1st, so that's what has me here. i'm hoping my valve body is the problem cause i have it out right now and the 1-2 shift was very hard to get out.

If you're having that much trouble getting the 1-2 shift valve out you might want to consider getting another valve body.

Was there ant aluminum metal in the pan? The noise could be the low speed planatary. Hope not , thats big bucks.
