Default modify shock towers

who here has done this to a 65? If you have done it can you show some pics so I have a few ideas? I dont have my engine on hand at the moment and I want to get the bay ready for my turbo set up. When I pulled the car apart about 3 years ago the after market headers that came on the car were rubbing on one side and there was about 1/8 inch away on the other side but I dont remember where they hit. I have a set of fox body headers that came with my turbos and if I can get them to work with a shock tower mod that would be ideal. I have the 289 block and will be using AFR heads.

RRS makes a shock tower notching kit. However it may only work with the RRS coilover system.

yeah the RRS kit only workts with their coil over system.

the only thing i can think of that would pose a problem nothiching it where it needs to be, is contact with the spring up front, or the CA.. but depending on how much you need you might be able to cut out and weld in a patch that gives you more room

The RRS kit is somewhat what I am looking for but I am not going to pay 200 plus shipping for something I can make at home for a couple bux. I saw one where they cut it flat and it stepped out at the bottom. I am considering that method or bending a large diameter section of a circle and weld it in. I want to do something that wont be too tacky in my bay.

Yeah with rrs you have to run a coil over on spindle which means no upper control arm.You can notch them all the way down to your upper control arm bolt holes but have to leave enough room for the spring tho.

If you are clearancing for headers or plumbing that only requires slight adjustments (all you really can do without creating issues with the springs), then your best bet is to heat the area and adjust it with a hammer. There are so many curves and depressions in the stock shock towers, that with a little finess, you can make it look factory. Cutting and welding actually takes longer and looks poorer.

Before I did the big no going back 1st cut on my stock towers I looked long and hard into
RSS and tcp.
Knowing I didnt have to notch but I despise the shock towers. I came to the conclusion if im going to cut I might as well just eliminate them all together anyway. So I did the rod&customs mustang 2 kit. lots of room now.
