Default T5 questions

Sorry didn't want to highjack the other post about the T5. I have started looking for one. I found a rebuilt one for 375. I assume that is a good price??

I have a 66 289. What years will work for me? How many spline shaft will work? What is the length that I need to get the driveshaft cut down to?

Thanks, Jeff

the price is very good in case it is a proper rebuild. but you need to make sure it's one for a V8 (so it holds up) as well as the year. only a certain range of years will do.

Do I need the "S-10" conversion to move the shifter forward? The web sites that Nick sent me to didn't mention that.

Good site though Nick..Lot's of info.

No, you don't need the S-10 conversion. A proper V8 T5 will line up the shifter in your car nearly perfectly.

if it wasnt from a V8, consider a new input shaft. thats the part that wont match up to the V8 (you can make it if you get a bearing from a mazda i believe.) the shaft in a T5 is two pieces. the input and the main. its a very simple task to pop them out.

when you fit a t5 the as mentioned above the shifter fits near perfect. i had to open the shifter hole by about an inch to the right and front. job done. since you have a 1966 i guess you have a 6 bolt bellhousing as you will need either a new bellhousing or an adaption kit to fit. but i guess all the links above will tell you all the options you have
