i live in norcal. so that mean no rain. i dont have to worry about rust as much. i dont have the monies for paint to do it myself or send it to a shop. so primer is how its gonna be. i know 3 guys with 66 mustangs , 1 guy with a 70 camaro, and 1 guy with a 71 cougar. all primer.

weasel the wheels are 17x8 front and back. tires are 235/45/17 front, 245/45/17 back.

i bought those wheels just to roll the car around on pretty much. the 4.5" backspacing makes it so i cant lower it to tire tuck. the fender is flush with the wheel. so once i get the money, im getting torque thrust 2s. with the biggest amount of backspace i can get without having to use spacers, that way i can slam it to the ground haha.

True, I just thought of something else. You said your car was stripped. When you painted the fill primer, did you use a self etching primer first? Is the fill primer you used good for direct metal application? I know the urathane 2K fill primer I am using has to be shot over a self etch primer on bare metal. Otherwise I will have bonding issues.

Epoxy primers can be shot directly on bare metal.

Just some thoughts......

its a surfacing/self etching primer. you use 2 colors. so when you sand the top coat down, its shows the high and low spots. it sticks really well to the bare metal and filler.

im just gonna shoot the epoxy primer right over it.

The way I was told to do primer was epoxy primer first over bare metal or original paint if it is in good condition to make a water tight seal. You then do your filler (bondo) and then high build primer. Block sand until you are happy it is all flat and then shoot another coat of epoxy primer as a sealer coat to sandwich it all in.
Over at hotrodders everyone swears by SPI primers and clear coats. I used PPG which cost 3 times as much...

chris66dad, i remember looking at your website a few months ago. super nice build write ups. did you get a new username? thanks for that info. but i already did the filler work right on the bare metal. and im not gonna go and strip it all off again. so i guess ill just shoot the epoxy on before i do any more work.

Thanks true66gt! I use my website name here. You should be ok. There are some who say to do "bondo" over bare metal and seal it all in with epoxy. From reading about SPI epoxy, they say it is easy to sand to get it smooth. The PPG was horrible because it would make little tar ***** on the paper.
