Default 1989 302 - Harmonic Balancer - Help

I am trying to get the harmonic balancer off. No such Luck. As you can see with the picture, this is as far as I can get it off. Not because it will not come off, but it seems as I get farther away from the crank, it gets harder to pull / screw off with the tool. Is there something I am missing?

Thanks for the help!

You have the right tool, but are the threads on the tool jamming up? That happens sometimes. Try puting a socket between the pivot end of the tool and snout of the crank, so you are using the lower threads of the tool as you pull it off.

Ok I will try that tomorrow. These balancers do come off though....
Other than that, everything seems to be coming off ok.

As long as you took the bolt out, they usually get easier towards the end until they just pop off.

Dude, I got it out! thanks for your help on that.

ok a new question for these newer engines....

How do you get the timing cover off? All bolts are out of them. Including the Oil Pan bolts directly underneath the timing cover. I have tried using lightly a crow bar, but can not pop it off. The 68 engine, slid off without any trouble. help would be great!

Did you remove the oil pan or just the bolts? Assuming the oil pan is off, you would be surprised how tightly gasket sealant can hold. Try to get a screw driver blade under it an 6 or 7 places around the perimeter. Be careful! You don't want to damage the sealling flange, just work it a little at a time around the cover and eventually it will pop off.

You might have to loosen some of the other pan bolts to let the front drop some.
