Default 1966 radio question.

I'm trying to help a friend with a resto project that he is working on. He's trying to keep it as close to original as possible.

Can anyone tell me the anything about the stock speakers in a 1966 mustang (stock coupe), with an AM radio. Size, location, etc... Also, are there any suitable replacements or N.O.S. being sold. It would help me out a ton, thanks in advance.

The original speaker would have been a 4" X 10".
The Philco radio, 6TPZ, would be designed for an 8 Ohm speaker.
NPD has replacements. Don't know about any NOS.

I still have the old one out of my 67. I don't know if they are the same though, it is the under dash speaker.

I have been looking at the USA 66 as a modern replacement for mine.

Looks similar and has modern features.

They also have speakers.

Blue 66,

FYI, please do some internet searching on that company. That is a BEAUTIFUL unit, but I have heard they have reliability issues. They may not, but I just wanted to give you a heads up.

If it isn't true, awesome, I will buy one too.

If it IS, that sucks, because no other unit comes close to looking that good.

I've heard the complaints about Custom Autosound, too. I don't give them much credibility since the company has been around for a real long time. Also, I've seen people say they are crap then say they got Secret Audio, which is made by the same company.

I'm not sure what to believe, but I'm planning to get one of those when I get to that point.

Not to plug it or anything but I have a custom autosound stereo for sale... it was given to me when I bought the car, I think it looks awesome and has some good features. It is also brand new never used... it is even still in the factory plastic...

Best bet is to leave a oem radio in the hole or a radio delete. And mount a din size radio under the dash or in the glove box you will be a lot happier and its cheaper.

Do not buy the custom autosound radio. It looks sweet but its junk. The first one I got didnt work at all. The second works, but the radio signal was weak, the i pod worked after the $150 cord I had to buy, then that quit working too. I would never buy this again. I am just hoping NPD will take it back when I get the car out in the spring.
