Default How to Clean before reassembling engine..

Im painting the engine tomorrow and on Sunday will attempt to put it all back together. i have the heads off, i milled them and changed valves. I got a 69 stang with a 302.

Now, while cleaning, i got some dust and perhaps some dirt in the cylinders. The heads are off, oil pan off and everything labelled to reassemble. How would I clean the cylinders? Gas? Oil?

What else should i be aware of?? Would I need to drain the fluid (anti freeze) thats sitting in the block? and if so, how would you guys do that?

I'd use compressed air to blow out the dust/dirt. Hoping its not very much. Wipe down the cylinder walls with fresh oil then turn it over a couple of times, the oil should trap any debris and push it to the top when the piston goes up, then keep spinning until the piston goes down and wipe away the "ring" of debris left behind. At least that's how I would do it. In the future, always keep an open engine covered with plastic to prevent this.

I would also drain the block.

Default also..

thanks dude, i had the cyl stuffed with clean rags but i took them out and then when i used the air gun to blow something, it kinda blew some dirt/dust towards the block. i did what you said but i was wondering if any debri can wedge itself boyond the piston rings with the air.

how would you drain the block, i dont have a spinning engine stand, i have some other ****ty stand that bolts up to where the engine bolts onto the mounts. and how would you do this without getting anti freeze into the cyl?
