Coil Spring Cutting?
I haven't been on the forum much (nor worked on my ride) lately as I have a new job that's kicking my butt.
I'm finally around to assembling my front suspension. I'm planning on running 225/45/17 on 17x8 wheels with 4.5" backspacing up front. I would like it to ride low, but not scrape headers and such. The springs are the 620 lb. 1" drop springs and I have done the "Shelby drop". I realize the drop doesn't lower it much.
I'm thinking I should cut 1/2 coil off the springs. I'm well aware that the ride will be stiff with these springs and moreso if they are cut, that's not my concern.
So, for those that may know (or chime in anyway if you don't), should I go ahead with the 1/2 coil cut or cut a full coil or leave them alone?

I agree with BA. If you need to then cut them, do it 1/4 coil at a time. I know it is a pain that way, but not only will it lower the car, the spring will get very stiff. You need to sneak up on your final position and it is much easier to remove spring material than it is to add it back on!
On my 70 I went with 1" drop coils and front end was higher than b4 because of old saggy coils. Even with new 4 1/2 leafs in back - front was still higher. New ones did not settle or lower after drving awhile. Car is currently in paint but when out I plan on cutting. Nice thing is with the 620s, 1 inch drop not much compression is needed to get them out.
I cut 1/4" off mine and it went lower than I had intended. I have factory springs so I'm sure they don't have the hardness as newer springs. If you do decide to cut, do as Fakesnake recommended. You can alway cut but you can't add.
I dont understand why poeple say a suspension will settle. If the springs are going to settle, what keeps them from completely sagging day after day???
I wouldnt cut more then 1/2 coilon a 620 spring.1 full coil will make it fall out of the pocket when you jack the car up and take the weight off the spring
heres 1 full coil cut and a 215/45/17

Very pretty car! Is that Lambo orange or House of Color or something else?
Actually, it is less the spring settling as it is the rest of the suspension. The control arm bushings and spring perches take a little bit of time to settle once you set the car back down after changing the springs.
