Default Valve Adjusting? Needed or Not?

Guys i just installed new heads, everything else is marked, i marked the crank at the pully and the distr. When i put on the heads with the new valves. will i need to get the valves adjusted? or will they adjust themseleves while i tighten the screw on above the rocker arm?

What type of engine?
What type of cam/lifters?
What type of rockers?
Have you measured for push rod length to make sure nothing has changed there?

302 ford mustang 69

rockers are same, they are the non roller type with the bolt in the middle to keep it centered on valve, everything else is stock.

valves are manley valves exactly the same as the factory, no difference, i measured to perfection and ordered.

when i tighten the rockers on the valves, will it open the valves since i will be tightening the center of the valve?

So basically, this is a pedestal mount rocker arm:

That is not adjustable. If it looks like the one above, that is what you have and you simply assemble it and torque it to spec ensuring everything stays lined up. That's it, no other adjustment.

Those need to be adjusted. Here's how I do it:

Start with # 1 cylinder on the compression stroke at TDC. Both lifters will be sunk down into the closed position (push rods at the lowest point). Install your pushrods and rockers with the nut loosely installed, then using your fingers, gently keep spinning the pushrod in between your fingers while at the same time tighting down on the nut of the rocker arm. Do this until you feel all the slack is out of the pushrod (starts to drag), then tighten the rocker arm adjusting nut about 1/2 to 3/4 of another turn and you are done. Then turn the crankshaft 90 degrees to go to the next cylinder FOLLOWING THE FIRING ORDER and repeat until all 16 are installed and adjusted.

It's actually pretty straight forward and everyone who knows how to do it had to have a first time!
