Question suspension upgrade help

I am considering upgrading the suspension of my '68 mustang and since i am a first time mustang owner since 2 months ago i would appreciate any input.I use my car as a daily driver and i am not a big fan of racing , so it should be something that feels comfortable.I hear all the hoopla about the coil over suspension and the back four link, but it costs an arm and a leg , is it that good? and if so , can someone provide me the specific list of components so i can buy them little by little? or is there a better and cheaper system out there? i do a lot of driving during the day and my car is basically stock , except for the shackles and the traction bars and it feels like a rough ride sometimes.any suggestions??? Thanks in advance!!

is it a i6 or v8?

if its a i6, then all you need is to upgrade to a v8 setup. 5 lug, stiffer springs, lowered, new wheels/tires etc.

front: some 620 springs (most likely cut 1/2 - 1 coil since a 6 isnt as heavy as a v8), new v8 upper and lower control arms, some decent shocks, SHELBY DROP.

rear: (if currently a 8") new 4 leaf springs (to eliminate those nastyass shackles), and new shocks of course. and maybe lowering blocks or the mideye springs.

if its a 7.5" along with the i6 suspension, a new v8 setup will be perfectly good enough for a daily driver.

I'd strongly recommend against 620lb springs if you want a comfortable ride. I have 540's on my '67 and I find them great, probably too stiff for most people that daily drive their cars.

Otherwise, I agree with true66. 540lb springs, roller spring perches from DazeCars, 1" drop 540lb springs from OpenTracker, Shelby drop (to improve handling), 4 leaf GT leaf springs, rubber bushings everywhere, export brace, monte carlo bar, 15/16" front sway bar, and you should be in really good shape.

If your springs and shocks are wore out replace them check all the joints and lube them if needed.Front disc brakes are nice on a daily driver.Roller spring perches are also nice to have makes it ride a lot smoother. Also while your under it check any of the rubber lines on the brakes and fuel system for cracking or leaking.

I have a 67 coupe v8 that I drive daily. I rebuilt the suspension with new orginal parts with the only exception, I opted for an extra leaf in the rear springs. Mine rides fine although I have never driven a Mustang with all the fancy expensive add-ons.

the car is a V8 , 289 , 2 barrel carb. fastback ; When i bought it , it needed a new leaf spring set and bushings , i got a great deal from JC whitney an got it all and had it installed(by the way it runs on 15" cragar rims), thanks for your continued advice!!

Forget aftermarket suspension changes. You can get a solid, great performing suspension and steering with properly selected stock type components. Purchase new stock type upper and lower control arms and lower the upper arm by 1" (Shelby drop), roller spring perches, rubber or miloden strut rod bushings, 540 lb. 1" lowered springs on the front and mid eye 4 1/2 leaf springs in the back with rubber bushings, gas shocks (KYB, Edelbrock, Koni) with poly bushings, and stock inner/outer tie rods and idler arm bushing if needed. You will be amazed at the difference this will make for your Mustang.

If you make any aftermarket upgrade, IMO, a Rack and Pinion steering set up will give you more feel and control.

to what Tad posted: "export brace, monte carlo bar"
that made a huge difference to my car with the least amount of effort. it goes around a corner now without tilting like a speedboat
the shelby drop I never tried but this will be the best improvent for money (virtually none) as people say. i'm planning this for when I change my control arms (all the bushings and balljoints in there are gone) and I guess it'll be the same with yours

hmm, everyone always says the 620s are too stiff.

i dont think so. i had them on my car, and my dad has them on his car. both were perfect. and if i had my way, id make em even stiffer. i hate the floating feeling, like when going over railroad tracks or something. so the stiffer the better for me. and when going over speed bumps, the stiffer the better cause ive had multiple times where it comes down too hard and bangs the crossmember or pan. even when crawling over em.

I drive my 67 every day with 540's and 4.5 leafs in the back, and it's still pretty stiff going over crappy roads. 620's would make for slightly better handling, but I wouldn't want to be driving on crappy roads (or across railroad tracks) with them.
