A question about pulleys.
I don't know a lot about engine pulleys myself, but I came across this, and was wondering if it is the real deal, these horsepower pulleys. They said they are good for 12-15HP at the wheels, and are supposed to make your car an all around better performer as well. So I am like hey like 230 a pop for a good solid 15HP, is a good deal, I was just wondering, do I just order these and put them on? I am lost, is there another part I need or is there a certain way to set them up? Thanks in advance.
Be careful with those. The way you get the extra horse power is by changing the ratio of crank to accessory item. Think back to your mountain bike. If you are on a small cog up front and a large cog on back you pedal more to make the rear tire turn the same amount as if you were on a big cog up front, but it takes less energy while climbing that hill (over simplification here).
Now relate that to your engine. The crank pulley is you pedaling. The water pump pulley is the rear tire of the mountain bike. If you change the ratio (like changing gears) you slow your water pump down.
This takes less energy to drive the water pump, but also reduces efficiency of the water pump. Same thing goes for the alternator.
If you have no issues with cooling, and your Alternator will put out max current at 20% reduction in rpms, then all should be fine. However if you are pushing things now (big stereo - small alternator, hot summer - A/C on in city driving), then you might want to use it when you go to the track only.
I always am leary when they say things like "...20 more horsepower...but wait there's more! If you act right away we'll throw in this free set of Ginsu knives! Hurry this is a limited time offer, your mileage may vary...not legal for sale on smog controlled vehicles on the planet Mars.

lol, knives are always good though...
Anyhow, maybe if I gave you guys the link it would help, I was in such a hurry, I forgot to post it!

I have a big stereo, but I never really even use it, it was in the car when I got it, and as far as my alternator goes, I dunno, I got a rebuilt one not that long ago, I don't know what it really puts out, but I wouldn't mind upgrading it.
hmmmmmm.......it is kinda sounding like to get these extra 10HP it is too much work and too risky? is that the point? I may be wrong.

Unless you plan on upgrading your water pump and alternator to those designed to turn slower, yet give you more power, then think about it. Guys who do the underdrive pulleys also have upgraded pumps and alts. There are other ways to get more horsepower than this.
