Squeaky classic
Hey everyone

I am new to this site

Approx. 6 months ago I purchased a straight body 66 baby blue coupe.

It has a 6 cyl. 200c.i. engine and looks real decent for its age.

It has 4 lug with 13 inch cragar mags and Gt qualifier tires, I have recently installed a stainless steel brake kit with booster and dual master cylinder on the front.

Before I do anything else I have a problem with squeaks coming from the car frame I suppose which are quite annoying.

I am not totally sure where these are generating from and how to tackle making them go away.

If anyone can shed some light in the right direction for me it would greatly be appreciated.

Thanks in Advance

BabyBlue:

I just picked up a twin to your car, the motor and trans are out but in tact and ready to go back in.

How is the performance from your 6 Cyl?

Do you mind telling me how much 66 Coupes are going for in Cali these days?

Have you found any retailers that you would reccomend?

Do you have a C4? Do you like it?Mine has The C4.

Thank You
<edited><editID>Utah 66</editID><editDate>37932.9222916667</editDate></edited>

Hey Utah

My Baby Blue Coupe is a 6 ci. with the c-4 trans, but when I was 19 my first car ever bought was a 67 convertible with a 289 and a 4bbl holley which really ran well.

The 6 cyl. doesnt have the passing power I want.

I like the car and I am thinking of getting a donor mustang with a v-8 and do a complete engine and suspension swap.

This would be quite an undertaking for me because I admit that I lack the necessary skill level needed to pull it off but I have 110% desire and determination.

A 6 cyl. in good condition like mine runs anywhere from about $4000 to $7000

Right now I would like to find a donor car in my area.

BabyBlue, the noises you are hearing is exactly what Vfast was talking about. You need to either do 1 of 2 things: grease the upper control arm bushings or replace the bushings. If you're going to do the V-8 conversion, you'll have to change the front end parts to V-8 anyway, so that will eliminate the squeaks.

I personally like my six(it's a 170 in my 64-1/2). Better gas milage is a big plus. If you want to pep up the six, try going to Clifford Performance. They have all kinds of "goodies" to make a six as peppy as a V-8. You state you"lack the necessary skill level" to perform the mods, hey we all started somewhere. The best way is to ask questions, and read up on the subjects. Most vendors sellbooks on restoring our cars and a factory shop manual is priceless. Whatever you decide to do, good luck and have fun!
