Default Pertronix question

I am installing the Ignitor 2 with a flamethrower 2, 12 V coil. I understand that the old coil should be getting about 8 Volts due to the resistor from the ignition (green/red to pink back to green/red) . I checked and am getting 12V hooking up a meter to the green and red wire on the + side of the coil with the key in the on position. I assume this means that the resistor has already been bypassed?? It still has points in it, I thought they would burn up with a full 12 Volts going to them??

Thanks,

Jeff

Negative. You're getting 12V because the coil isn't being grounded. No current means no voltage drop from the resistor. You have to actually start the motor and check the voltage while running. It should alternate from 8V to almost 0V.
