'65 289 Fan
I'm trying to decide on replacing the factory four blade fan on my '65. How many people are still running the factory four blade 289 fan?
I'm not having any issues yet but it does get real hot in GA summers..

rbrown22, where in Ga are you located? I still have the factory fan in my '65 coupe and it does get hot, however has not overheated. During the summer months while sitting at a redlight you can watch the temp guage climb. So getting stuck in Atlanta traffic would not be the best thing. Let me know if you change yours and if it helps.
I went to a large Flex-a-Lite fan with big block shroud and all of my cooling issues that were not fixed with a new radiator were fixed with the fan and shroud. I think the key is get a good fan and a shroud that fits. The biggest diameter one you can find and still fit in a shroud is the one I would get. They key is air movement and water movement. If your radiator is brand new, but your fan is crap, you will still overheat.
This is what I am running on my car. Also a shroud is strngly suggested as well.

jspagna1, that is the fan I installed as well. I have had zero issues with it. If you get to August, and you are not having problems, then everything is probably great and a good coolant flush every so often is probably sufficient. Just inspect your original fan for material failure to make sure not stupid happens. I understand that 289s have less heating load than say a supped up big block, but high air flow and unrestricted water flow are the key to not having cooling issues, IMO. This does not mean take your thermostat out, but do spend some time thinking about how to improve your air flow and insuring that the radiator and cooling system is not clogged.
