Default Dash support

I think the PO might of done something to the dash. I am trying to put new kick panels in and they don't seem to fit. I haven't found a picture on the internet that show what I am looking at on mine. There is a "L" bracket that is welded on the bottom of the dash to the side metal. I haven't gotten under the dash to see anything else yet. Is this right or wrong?

That is not supposed to be there....

Grind the welds and pull it out. Hopefully it is not holding the dash in there...

I think those brakets are supposed to be there. Compare your new kick panels with the old and see if they are the same.

Not sure about the 66 but I know they are supposed to be on the 67 dash. Below is a photo showing it on the drivers side. There is another one on the passengers side. My guess is that it IS supposed to be there on yours as well. I know the new kick panels I have will need to be trimmed around this also.

Scratch what I said, I'm retarded. I was putting sound deadener and carpet in this weekend and saw that my 65' had them too. Not very good design or good looking though.

I didn't have to trim anything when I put my new kick panels in. I would make sure whats holding them before you start cutting on them.

It'll depend on the panels but also whats on the floor. If you have a layer or 2 or sound dampening material or more plus your padding and carpet they likely need to be trimmed as in my case.
