Alternator Install
Hey guys UPS is about to deliver my new alternator its a 100amp one but in like a factory small style case the same 3 wire
so im pretty sure ill be able to mount it to the bracket and stuff just fine but my question is how do you release the belt tension??
at first glance i assume its this guy right here:

if so then after that i would remove the pulley followed by the alternator?
1 more question am i going to be able to use that old pulley from my old alternator?
thanks all
btw i have read every single thread about alternators on this classic forum i actually have about 3 in my favorites so i did do a search before posting this i read james saying something about a screw not sure if that was what im pointing too

Since you're running a serpentine belt, you should have a "belt-tensioner". It'll be a pulley on a sprung arm (not PS, waterpump, or crank). You put a wrench on that (or it may take a square drive like a ratchet) and "swing" it to loosen the tension on the belt so it can be removed. Then, remove the alternator, then the pulley. You should be able to reuse the pulley.
Don't forget to disconnect the battery before you do annything.

That set up doesn't look like it will have a belt tensioner. What you are pointing to is the adjuster arm. Disconnect your negative battery cable and all connections on the rear of the alternator. Loose the two jam nuts (one at either end) and be careful as one is reverse threaded. twist the bar to take the tension off the belt and slip the belt over the alternator pulley so it is free. Then remove the short bolt holding the adjuster to the alternator. At the other end of the alternator, there is a long bolt (probably an allen head) that goes through the alternator and into the head. That is the main mounting bolt and the pivot for the adjuster. Remove it and the alternator will be free. You will need an impact gun to remove the pulley and install it on the new one. Reverse the order and tighten the belt and you are done.
alright so i shaved down that metal bracket and got someone to air gun the bolt off
now i am going to finish the install tomorrow which is actually later today
i hope all goes well and it works
how tight do i need to re tighten the belt tension?
like as tight as i can twist that little adjuster bar?
