And like I said, 80W gear oil has a similar viscosity to SAE 30 motor oil. It's not really thicker, just a different rating system.

According to David Kee Toploaders: 75W-90 is recommended for normal driving in a toploader. 80W-140 is recommended for race, extreme, and heavy load use.
I have been told the same thing applies to Ford 9"...75W-90 for normal use and 80W-140 for extreme high rpm use.
75W-90 is easy to find, but I have had problems finding 80W-140 in normal auto parts stores. Personally, I am running 80W-90 in both my tranny and Ford 9".
