What in gods name are you looking at that costs $600 for pedestal mount rockers???

You must be looking at shaft mount rockers. You need to look for Pedestal mount. Summit or Jegs. they usually run a little more than stud mount rockers but nowhere near 600.

What about these for $200? They even include the shims.

They're going to start back up in March after some severe internal restructuring.

Are asking if you can switch a pedestal mount head to stud mount or switch a press in stud to a threaded stud? The answer is yes to both, but the best solution is to have the heads machined for screw in studs.

You may be asking your self what is the difference. Pedestal mount studs cannot be adjusted for valve lash. You just screw them down and go. With stud mount rockers, you can better adjust for lash. Screw in studs are better because they will not pull out with a high tension valve spring or high valve lift, but press in studs are fine for stock janer applications.

crane sells conversion kits that screw into the pedestal mount and then give you a 3/8 stud sticking up for use with "normal" rocker arms.

thats the best way to go IMO because you will have a way to adjust the rockers and they also come with built in guideplates
