Here are links to the motor mounts and trans mounts from DVS restorations.

The 4.6 is a lot wider than a 302 so you will have to notch the shock towers. Most people just go with a MII front suspension to eliminate the shock towers. You may have to modify the trans tunnel as well.

I'm building a restomod with a 4.6 DOHC with the suspension from a Mark VIII. I fabricated the complete floor from front to back and the whole front end but you wont have to do all that. Check out modularfords.com they have a modular conversion forum. Should be able to get a lot of info and help over there.

Here's a few pics of my work in progress.

Why would you need to switch the rear end?

if your planning on using a 2 valve 4.6 don't waste your time, they are friggen pigs. now if your talking the 4 valve cobra/mark viii motor or a 3v motor from a 05+ thats another story.

You will have to notch or remove the shock towers maybe trim the tranny tunnel depending which tranny your going to use.The rear end i wouldn't use a 9 inch is stronger and you can buy ones that will bolt right in.I don't get why all the work and its only a 281 i rather build up a big block or stroker small block.

Well he said hes already got one laying around so maybe he doesn't want to spend money building a whole new motor.

It would probably be cheaper rebuilding an old motor than modifying it to fit a 4.6 and transmission.,

Well I guess that all depends on who you ask. I got the same type of comments when I started building my mustang. I put in the 4.6 DOHC, 4R70W trans, four wheel disc brakes w/ hydroboost, power rack and pinion steering, new rear quarters, stripped the car and put it in epoxy primer.... I still havent spent $1000.

And I guess It also depends on who's giving you all the free stuff.

Nope. Even if I had to pay for the stuff I got for free I would still have less than $1000 in my conversion. I gave $600 for the Mark VIII and sold the body for scrap after it was stripped for $200. I used two 24' lengths of tubing and roughly 2 4'x8' sheets of 16ga so around $200 for the metal (which is the only thing I got for free). That puts me back up to $600. Quarters were $200 shipped, primer was $89 and the hydroboost was $53. I also bought 2 steering ujoints for $25 and my fuel line was $30. That puts me at around $967. The quarters and primer I wouldn't count as far as the conversion goes so that would only put me at $678. I've still got the engine, trans, rear end, and front suspension parts from the mustang that I need to sell so by the time its all said and done I'll have very little money tied up in the car just a lot of time. I'm not saying that I have every thing I need already, there are still a few more things I need to buy but it is still going to be a pretty inexpensive build.
