Default Classic Auto air Installation

Well I am almost done with the "daily driver" install with Eaton Power steering pump. I like the underdash unit as it looks retro and is completely separate from the heater. The bracket for the eaton pump required substantial mods and rest of the system came together really well. I must say the support was outstanding and I would recommend Classic Auto air to anyone. I have Stainless lines coming and will post pics when done with dimensions for anyone who may want to install the kit. The good news is that the kit is able to be used with the stock eaton pump and you do not need to install a remote reservoir. The belt however required 1/2 inch shorter belt and you have to put the belt on the power steering pulley then install the pulley while keeping the keyway on the shaft. You then have plenty of clearance for later adjustment.

I am waiting for one last 90 degree fitting from Classic Auto Air then I will send back the tubing to get the stainless steel tubing crimped. I should have the fitting any day and will return and take pics after I get the finished product. If you have a ford pump your install should be much easyer as I have a eaton power steering pump and the bracket took some major changes. The good news is the next guy can see what I did and make the mods. It requires a bracket mod a power steering belt change to the next smaller size( install on power steering pulley then slide on shaft)to stop hitting the compressor and the spacers in the kit have to be shortened.

Here are a few pics to show what I am talking about

I really appreciate the info , The classic air kit that i have was given to me as part of the package when i bought my '68 mustang , the seller bought it from another friend who never installed it , then he lost his job and was forced to sell the car (1968 mustang fastback) Hence , i came in the picture and bought it all. So i have no paperwork on it and i doubt i can get phone support , but i have an excellent old school mechanic who installed one before on another client's mustang and it's all good. I am running a 289 basically stock, power steering,4 barrel holley carb.If you have a list of any extra parts needed and where to find them , that would be great. Thanks !!!!!!!!!

Today(I hope) I should get the last fitting I need and send off to get the finished stainless lines. What powersteering do you have? The kit that I ordered( I can give you part numbers) came with the idler pulley, fittings, grommets and hoses(have to cut to size and return) and spacers and hardware. As I had to customize mine I used new hardware and had to cut down the spacers. The original belts worked but didn't allow enough room to adjust the power steering. I can give you the length and part numbers I used. I also did not have the original knockout in the firewall so I drilled out for the hoses and ordered a sheetmetal cover like original. Classic auto air will be sending me a couple of the grommets that I used in the radiator support so it will give it a finished look. Yours may be way easyer than mine.

I dont have anymore than the trans cooler in the radiator. I also have an automatic. The area of concern if you add air is whether or not you have enough of a fan to keep things cool. I have an electric fan as my motor has mods. They sent me a stock six blade fan as part of the package and I also have a brand new filter if you need one. I am going to put both of them up on ebay but if you need them I will give you a good deal.
