Default New rear end?

Well last night I hit a patch of ice spun out and broke an axel when I hit the curb.So I got online and I was looking for a new axel and did a little reading and found out I had an open rear end and that I should switch to something with Posi.Is this a good Idea.I was also thinking about getting a disc brake conversion kit. What do you guys think I should do and where should look for it.I have a 302 with a automatic 3 speed.Any advice will be very appreciated.

If you're driving around on icy roads, I'd probably recommend against anything but an open differential. Anything that gets both wheels spinning is going to send you off to the side of the road much quicker than if you only had one wheel spinning.
