Default Flywheel question

I decided to go T-5 instead of the auto I had intended, found someone wanting the opposite so we traded.

I have both the T-5 bell housing and the original style with all linkages. Having a hard time deciding which bell to use, but I prefer the old school stuff. Either way, I need a flywheel.

Looking on line, I see vendors selling flywheels for ~$50, but can't seem to get them to tell me the tooth count. As far as I know, I need 157 tooth count and 28 oz. imbalance for the old bell. For the T-5 bell, I would need a modern flywheel and have it rebalanced by a machine shop to 28 oz.

Am I correct that I need 157 tooth? Some vendors have told me I need 164 tooth .....

Any help is appreciated.

I measured the flexplate that I have (assuming it was the correct one) and it is 13 1/4" in diameter (including the teeth). I can't count the teeth because of the location its in.

Does anyone know what tooth count and diameter flywheel I need to use my z-bar clutch linkage and a factory bell housing? I know I'll need the adapter .....

I am doing the same thing to my 65. I am putting a new 302 in it with a T5. I am going to use the T5 bellhousing.

I can tell you that my 302 is a 90 5.0 block and it has a 50 oz 157 tooth Ford Racing flywheel.

i don't know why a different bellhousing (stock vs T5) would ask fro a different flywhell.
for my 1972 302 I ordered 157tooth with 28imbalance. if thagt works (if the starter engages ...) I'll know this weekend when I hopefully start her up first time since engine swap

Any Ford 28 ounce, 157 tooth flywheel will work. Why have one rebalanced, when there are many available already balanced to spec? Just pick one that meets your clutch requirements.

157 tooth for a 289/302 and 164 tooth for a 351, assuming a toploader. The balance (0, 28, or 50) will depend on what you have done inside (i.e. how the rotating assembly is balanced). The balance will vary depending on year of the rotating assembly/block and if anyone has done balancing work on it. I do not know if the T5 changes the tooth count or not, so take this for what it is worth...

Thanks fakesnakes, that's exactly what I needed.

kalli, I thought you had a '64.5, do you also have a '72?
