wheels and offset question on a 66
car info for those who dont know yet:
1966 mustang coupe, factory v8 car
ok those who have been following my ideas so far know i am wanting to build this car alot different from the normal everyday car. but here is the main issue i am having, i have found a set of wheels from the 05 and up cars and also the 94 to 04 cars, well the main issue i have is i am very confused about offset, i was really wanting liek a 20" wheel in rear and 19" in front but it seems as if that might not work out, at least thats what i have been told
but maybe a 19" and 18" setup?? im not sure
but i have been wanting a air ride setup as most of you on here know by now, and want the wheels in the rear tucked in the fenders as you know as well. but then again i may have been talked out of the air ride but either way its going to sit low and tucked.
what is the offset range i need to be looking for in the rear and in the front? also what size would you all reccomend? i know alot of guys say 17 is biggest possible and that 16s are the best size to go with but when i read that i think in terms of if you are building a original stang, but i am going all out on this one so im asking what would you guys reccomend and if there are modifications needed to do it as well then please inform me of them
and the wheels i was wanting is the foose nitrous wheels, they can be found on cruisin concepts site (link is all over this site to their page) in case someone wanted to go look at them and see the specs and see what it would take in terms of modifications if those would work
thanks guys and also i will be making a poll soon on paint for the car and still needing a couple of ideas to throw in the poll so if you guys have any throw them in your post as well..... and remember it is being built as a show car but different from most so eleanor color scheme is out of question lol
thanks guys
edit:
oh and also i forgot this part in the paint part, the name i was looking for is "black sunshine" but it dont have to be named that nor does it have to be black that was just my idea for it and got the name from the song by white zombie (now rob zombie) which was a song about a mustang of course. but anyway like i said dont have to be named that but if it is colored something different reccomend a name too if you have one, and i have considered the stripes down the middle look but also have solid colors in mind, also have just crazy design so if any of you have any ideas for it just hit it my way

20 fit. The special number to keep in your head is 26 inch. As long as you keep the outer diameter of the tire on the rim close to 26 you will fine. I prefer to keep it just below and not go over 26 in the front.
The 05 and up rims have the incorrect offset for early models. You can still use them, you just have to use custom adapters that will bolt onto the car and then the wheel will bolt onto them. Because you are lowering the car so much there is no easy answer to tell you what size adapters you need.
You can:
Buy the 20s and 19s you want and use washers on the lugs to space out and measure what size adapter will give you the best fit you are looking and then order the adapter in the thickness needed. I would bet 1.5 inch.
Buy/rent the wheelrite measuring tool
Try reviewing my wheel charts here: www.dodgestang.com to improve your understanding of wheel fit on the cars at various suspension combinations.
Also its easy to convert offset to backspacing....

New cars talk offset...old cars talk backspacing...put two guys (one late model, one vintage) in a room and most of the time neither one really knows all that much about either

before you plan to put any 20" rims on the classic try to find pictures from someone who actually has done that before. Maybe after seeing what that looks like you scrap the idea immediately.

There was a picture of a 65 or 66 floating around either this forum or over at allfordmustangs that was lowered and had 24" on the rear. Looked ridiculous but I cant find the post.
Here is the best tire and wheel calculator of any I have tried. It lets you compare to tire and wheel combos and gives backspacing and offset.

i really like that look too, nice and low to the ground so it dont look out of place and tucked under the fenders, i would probably pick a different style wheel but the size part isent that bad
....how the heck does he put gas in it?
hehe I bet I had you going at least for a millisecond.
IMHO the boss 429 scoop is the major detraction on that car.
The scoop isnt working for me either...........neither is the wheel choice
