Your gauge is either wrong, you have more than 15:1 compression ratio, or you are way below sea level. None of which I would think is true. A normally aspirated engine can only have a maximum compression reading equal to barometric pressure times the compression ratio of the engine. Standard sea level pressure is 14.7 psi and even if the barometric pressure is 32 inches of mercury is only about 15.7 psi. At 10:1 that would be about 147 to 157 psi on a compression test with perfect sealing on valves and rings. To get 230 psi and assuming a very high barometric pressure (15.7 psi), you would have to have a compression ratio of about 14.6:1. Compression readings also depend on altitude and if you are at high elevations, an engine that would give 120 PSI at sea level might only give 100 psi at 5000 feet.

All I know is what my gauge read on all 8 cylinders. I even checked some of them 2-3 times. Cleveland 4V closed cambered head engines ran high 11sCR. You have me wondering whether that gauge reads PSI or inHG.
