Default wow! now it's officially a horse :-)

I have most of my idle problems sorted with different pulley and thick rubber gasket under carb. I re-adjusted carb and ignition and hell is that thing quick.
so I'm hoping to have some sunshine tomorrow so I can floor it on the dry tarmac :-) can't wait

Very good news! What do you mean by thick gasket under the carb? Do you mean a spacer?

We have the same setup and yes, it really is fast

Cool, glad you are getting iti worked out. It's like night and day when it's set up and running right, huh?

Post back and let us know if your vapor lock issues are cured with that gasket.

the very very most. I only heard it stumble once but the hood was closed. so I couldn't tell but would say that was it. open hood-> no problem anymore. that thick gasket cured it. The engine is not getting hot anymore but it's kinda cooking under the hood so once I get a proper fan I'd say I'm golden. I think changing from 7" to 6" pulley was the biggest part. waterpump and fan are running 16% quicker now.
Still have the idle high (850-ish), but I'm convinced with new fan I'll get her to 750-800 steady ... i'm excited!

Kalli, I'm not really up to speed, but you changed to a smaller pulley on the water pump because the engine was overheating?

850 idle is not too bad for a hog motor . More duration and lift often required higher high speed. My 383 like 900-1000 most days.

yes. exactly. See the thread "getting hot in idle". it's all explained there :-) I always learn something new :-)

Urban: at 850 she's nice and steady but it's not rumbling it just sounds like an agressive beast "let me go ... let me GO!!!!" Kinda like it as well, but low idle is cool. I'll make up my mind once I have a different fan. at the moment 850 is better to keep the coolant flowing and better chilled
