Default 302 roller block bored .030 over

I am going to rebuild my 302 bored .030 over roller block...i think its a 91 roller block.

This is the rotating assembly i was going to order.

SCAT Engine Components 1-45105BE - Scat Engine Rotating Assemblies

And these heads...

Airflow Research 1388 - AFR 185cc SBF Street/Strip Outlaw Heads

and this is the cam, lifters, and pushrods.

http://store.summitracing.com/partde...=CCA-K31-422-8

Ill use a edlebrock air gap intake with holley carb to.

Now i want to get the most HP and aggressive thump out of the cam as possible.
THis is going into my 65 mustang and it will be driven on the street alot but i want the most HP out of the 306 as possible. Any suggestions would be great.

thanks

Yeah, might as well go with a 331 kit. Doesnt really cost any more.

I wanna say you can piece together a good cam and lifter set-up for much much less than that kit. Since you have a roller block you can use stock style lifters and get a good cam similar to the one you specified. The heads will already come with valve springs so you'd have a set left over and that's extra money.

Terms like "most HP" and "aggressive thump" do not go well with "driven on the street." You need to figure out your end goal for the car, then work backwards. A motor with a really high peak power output and a nasty idle is going to be far from ideal for a street car. Ideally, you want to maximize area under the torque curve.

Rather than the 270HR, I'd recommend the 281HR. It has a bit more duration to shift the power band up (you're going to need at least 3.55 gears), and it gives you a wider power band. It won't idle smoothly, but it won't idle like a lopey flat-tappet cam, either.

I agree with everyone else, though, a stroker is the way to go if you're already planning on replacing the rotating assembly.

Well, first yes, if you're going to buy a whole rotating assembly, just get a stroker, 347 or if you're afraid of grinding the block for clearance, 331. That's a solid rotating assembly and unnecessary for a street engine unless it has a lot of boost or nitrous.

Second, those heads are large and that cam is small, so it would be a mismatched combination. If you run a large head like a 185, you need a bigger cam to match it, but then yes, it's gonna lose street manners so you'll need at least 3.55's if you wanna drive it every day and not have to fight it.

Third, if it's a street driver, then 90% of your driving is going to be UNDER 3,500rpm. You don't want a race car. You'd really be better off with a smaller head, or maybe something like a TFS TW head and a custom cam.

You need to rethink your goals and your combination.
