haha just joshing ya. anyways, the 44s are the best route to go. compared to the flow master 40s they are very mild but still perform great. stay away from thrush they are garbage. remember you get what you pay for

flowmasters are all sound and no pound.......they suck up HP. Thrush mufflers....hmmmmm.
They make many now a days. In the ol days thrush muffs used to be round steel can type muffs that gave the meanest sound of any muffler, I think "smithys" are close to it. If you want sound and power go magnaflow or borla, othewise dynomax turbos, or any other turbo muffs even thrush or most others will give similar results. Slowmasters sound cool but they do not promote good exhaust scaveging they have more bark than bite and a BIG drone. If anyone can prove me wrong please do. I have seen on an engine dyno a 25fwhp difference between slowmasters an magnaflows on the same engine.

It depends on what you want, sound, power or both. Aerochambers are cheap an good too. I have a set of frpp dual mode muffs I'm going to try, it is like a quiet turbo in normal driving but at wot a spring loaded flap opens and its a straight thru open pipe muff.

Yeah, most of the Flowmasters absolutely suck for exhaust flow. Might as well be a cork. That's why I went with the Aero Chambers, they flow nearly as well(around 95% iirc) as a straight pipe of the same diameter. Flows are only like around 70-75% iirc.

has anyone made custom mufflers?

i had a friend of a friend come to my work to use the lift, he had an excellent exhaust tone, it was something like a chevelle i can't remember, but the mufflers were clearly home built.

I personally like the sound of Flowmaster. They sound really good at idle too. If The regular Flowmaster is too loud for your liking they offer several quieter series mufflers.

Borla and Magnaflow are nice mufflers. I really think Borla is overpriced though.

Dynomax mufflers make no sound at all. I also remember a magazine article where they did a dyno run with a fox body 5.0 Mustang and it made more power with stock mufflers than with dynomax.

What makes you say that Flowmaster is a cork. The "turbo" mufflers are more of a cork than a Flowmaster is.

If you want an old school sound, you could get Cherry Bomb. They make several different mufflers.

To give you an idea. Apparently Hooker has a newer muffler, the max flow. If that chart is accurate then it's basically like not even running a muffler.

Also keep in mind that this is simply for comparison, they tested them(in this case) at 15" water.

I had the thrush glasspacks on my 78' f150 and it sounded awsome...at first. then the glass i suppose became loose and it started to have a poppy sound when accelerating. I had a flowmaster 40 single inlet dual outlet on my 88' silverado and i loved it! Sounded great. I never really caught any higher tones from it. But I also had a hi-flow caddy in front of it so that may be why.
