T-5 Shifter
i have a triax in my 5.0, the crown jewel of aftermarket shifter is the MGW
with that said i like my MGW, but if you want to be cheap on a short throw search ebay and get a 1984-86 mustang SVO shifter they are hurst short throw(but like Starfury noted above its better to have one with positive stops the svo doesnt have them)

I have a Steeda Tri Ax I'm fixing to put on my TKO. The biggest problem with shifters in our old Stangs is reaching them. You either have to come up with your own handle(I modified a Hurst handle and then made bushings to adapt it to the Tri Ax) or get the remote shifter deal from M+, which I'm also looking at doing at some point.
Or you have to be 7 feet tall with orangutan arms.

DDDUUUUDDDEEEE that's exactly what I'm talking about!!! that's why I'm looking into different types of shifters. I want something with a nice comfortable reach but, that also shifts smoothly.
some people use a 94-95 t5 setup since it has a 1inch longer input shaft the shifter placement is moved rearward
I just installed a T5 in my car this past week and went with a Steeda Tri-Ax shifter. I love it, everything except for having to reach so far to shift. Right now its just got the stock shifter handle and the original 3 speed shifter ball on there but I'll most likely be investing in that remote shifter thing from Mustangsplus soon as well.

At the very least, you should switch to an OE-style shift lever that will bolt to your shifter. Many Mustang vendors carry them. That will move the shift ball back rearward to the stock location, which works for most people, but won't be quite as slick as the M+ setup.
I played with that remote shifter in their store a year or two ago and I was pretty impressed. Slick little piece of hardware.

The reaching thing can be a real pain in the *** at the track when trying to do the 2-3 upshift under full throttle on asphalt with VHT laid town. If you need to pull your should or back off the seat to do it, good luck, at least if you have any power.
