Default Electronic Rust Protection for our cars

Just bought a CounterAct electronic rust protection kit for our car. It basically sends a negative charge through the metal which helps fight off corrosion. Since I've cleaned every mm of metal on our car and its current rust free and freshly painted I figured now was the time to install it. Its something to try and see how it works. Guess I'll find out if it was a 200.00 waste of money next year or not.

Anyone use these or have any experience in the technology? I know its widely used throughout many industries to fight corrosion including bridges, oil platforms, salt mining, beach machinery etc.

Well that is just freaking crazy!! I never heard of that for a car! I worked on a lot of Impressed Current Cathodic Protection systems while in the Navy. I can tell you it is a must have for ships but on a car? I guess it is good in theory. For $200 I guess it is worth a try. I would be very interested to see if it works. I looked at the web site and it seems they know that they are talking about. Let us know how the install goes.

Should have it installed in 2 - 3 weeks when I start laying out the wiring and electrical. I've heard of it in many other industries but kind of excited to see how it works on a car over the next year.

In the oil industry we'd use cathodic protection on a lot of stuff. Metal piping with corrosive stuff in it, and a lot where you have to dissimilar metal flanges coming together, like when you bolt a stainless steel pipe to a carbon steel. The dissimilar metals generate an electrical current that increases the rate of corrosion, so the cathodic protection works to prevent that.

The theory is sound on a car, and they certainly are subjected to corrosives over time, rain, dirt, dissimilar metals etc.

Just build the whole thing out of carbon fiber, then it won't rust. I wouldn't mind having a Mustang that weighed 1,300lbs either.
