Default Solenoid Problems

So my engine wouldn't turn over when i went to leave today, turns out i left the lights on last night. Well i got my dads car and proceeded to jump it...Still nothing, not even a little nudge. So my friend who works for a mechanic lives next door and said to try banging on the starter, so i did and i heard a weird noise from the solenoid. like a continuous clicking. And i managed to get the engine to start turning a little by banging on the solenoid, and my friend banged on it and cracked it...So i went out and got a new one. Same problem.

And I ripped a wire apart which makes me the the wires just went bad, because i put little to know force on the wire and it broke.

on the front of my starter solenoid there are 2 angled (terminals?) one marked I and the other s. the one marked S broke.

what can i do, or does it sound like i need a new starter.

EDIT: By the way it rained ALOT this morning.

Try replacing the solenoid and repairing the broken wire.

The "I" terminal is the ignition coil bypass and allows a full 12V to the ignition coil during starting. The "S" terminal is the one that goes to the ignition switch and is ennergized when you turn the key. If "S" is broke you need a new solenoid.

the terminal didnt break the wire did. i was going to get a new starter too. I already got a new solenoid today. I just need to know what wires toget.

EDIT: If looking at this diagram
from the solenoid at the top left it is wire number 32. I need to replace it. I think.

I had the same problem and after replacing the solenoid (and still with the problem) I got the car on jack stands as I was planning to take the starter off and test it. When I was under the car I realized the ground cable (from baterry to engine) was dirty. So instead of taking the starter off, I ended up just cleaning the ground and that was all. Running again...

And yes, the 32 goes to the "S" (Red/Blue wire). By the way, if you have an AT, it goes to the Neutral Safety Switch.

You can strip the wire put a loop type lug on it and then find a nut to tighten it to the soleniod.

thanks. but if it broke so easily i can only assume that the whole wire is corroded. so how do i go about replacing the whole thing, or would it be easier to get a new harness.

Those factory lugs break off due to years of moving back and forth. Replacing the whole engine harness is a waste of money for one broken lug.

Any parts store but they won't look like the black factory one. They are usually color coded for size and you have to crimp them on.
