nothing to do with points etc.
Tad is correct with saying the cigarette lighter is unswitched. And in my car (64) even worse: unfused.
I don't think Ford was crazy enough to keep doing that in the 70s as well.
So once you know the battery is good (how did you check?) check the fuses first of all.
as said bvefore you need at least a testlight or voltmeter to test and stop guessing. let us know hen you have one and we'll talk you through it

Im still thinking ignition switch.. IF only you had a 69 it would be that much easier to check.. Pull the switch out and get your voltmeter. See if you have 12v to the switch and if so, connect one lead to the 12v battery connection of the switch and the other lead to the run pole, then acc pole and see if when you switch the key on to those positions you get continuity.. If you read no resistance then you are good, anything higher than 20-30ohms I would investigate.

Do your lights work at all? And are you really sure your battery has any juice at all?? You need a voltmeter.

Do your headlights work? I'm thinking you may have lost the connection at the firewall, where the harness goes through.

I'm gonna spend a bit more time tomorrow afternoon with the car, sunday at the last. I'll update when I've acquired a voltmeter and have checked some of the above things.

Thanks a lot guys.

i mean, learning is great and everything, but you can tell by the car he drives that he isn't subject to learning new things... LOL, i was actually suggesting that someone with a 70 give some insight as to how to do it.
