Road trip with the Mustang
Hi friends,
As mentioned before I believe my car is meant to be driven! I left San Francisco yesterday morning and drove all the way to Phoenix, Arizona (750 miles). The drive was really smooth, not a single sweat because of some car issues, everything was perfectly fine! The T5 with 3.55 is really great for travelling (most of the time between 2K and 2.5K RPM). The engine did not overheat at all (105 degrees outside when I arrived in Phoenix) and the gas mileage was pretty good (around 280 miles between gas stops).
(Arizona is really nice)

Today I left pretty early in the morning and drove to El Paso, Texas (450 miles). Once again, everything was great. I was doing 80 mph all the way in New Mexico.
(open road)

(on my way to New Mexico, close to Tombstone)

There are two small things bothering me though
1/ My rear is looking really low and my front really high, I usually like it but it is not really nice and looks weird now. I had the heads swapped to aluminium and the battery moved in the trunk, it probably explains! Any fix?
2/ Fellow Mustang owners, where are you? Not a single classic on my way (more than a 1000 miles so far), I felt really alone!
Please drive your car, I am leaving early in the morning for ... San Antonio, Texas

beautiful pictures man
i just drove my out to long island today from my house in jersey. about 100 miles...except i had a bit of a problem. hit a nasty bump on the belt parkway and my driver side tailpipe fell off. had to put in on the floor behind my seat and wrap it with towels so it wouldnt burn anything.
my c4 and stock rear definetly dont compare to a t5 and 3.55. i would love that

I gotta say, your car looks much better in those pics than it does in your sig
Nice ride. I'm glad everything's working out for you, too. That's really good gas mileage.
As far as the *** end sitting too low, knuckless is right, it's full of luggage:P It looks pretty good in that first pic. If you have original leaf springs and want to stiffen up the rear a little without altering the current ride height, you may consider upgrading to 4.5 leaf mid-eye springs.
I'd also recommend some drop springs for the front to even out the stance. Mustangs have a natural reverse rake; drop coils would give it a much more level look.

Very nice, and always good to see one of these cars out on the road doing what they were built for. I'm down in Houston, but don't have a classic. I know there's a few guys on the forum here in the area that do, though.
i noticed in the first pic that the chrome trim below the "M U S T A N G" trunk lettering was painted over. was that your choice or a painter mistake?
nice car btw. 67-68 coupes are my favorite coupe years.

As far as the stance problem is concerned, it is easier to see it on that picture. The trunk has probably 60 lbs of bags and tools and it has a relocated battery and a full tank at that moment. The front has aluminium heads, intake and well, no battery

I still have a long way to go, I will keep you posted!
If you've not changed your rear leafs...probably would be a good idea to help raise that rear a little.
Hey I'm in Waco...north of San Antonio. Let me know if you're swinging through

The car is parked uphill on that last pic...
I bet you it's not as pronounced at a levelled stance.
But I agree on leaf springs... time for new ones.
OP, more power to you for taking trips with your classic.
I put more than 100K on my Cougar after I restored it.
And I plan to duplicate that.
