Default Removing Soft Brake Line

I'm replacing all of the brake lines up front on my '65, and I got the hard lines off fine, but I'm trying to get the soft lines off from where they connect to the hard lines but they won't seem to budge. Do you just turn the line with a wrench, or do you have to remove a clip from the bracket before you can remove the line? I tried looking in my chiltons manual and it wasn't much help. Anyone have any advice? I'd appreciate it.

put a standard open end wrench on the soft line side. put a line wrench on the hard line side and turn the hard line side only. do not use a standard open end wrench on the hard line - use a line wrench or you'll be buying a new hard line.

Leave the clip on and use a wrench on both sides, with a line wrench on the hard line side. If the line wrench wants to round the nut you can use a set of vice grips, carefully. Some times it even helps to tighten the hard line into the soft line just to break it loose. Once it is broken loose it will come off easy as pie.

Penetrating oil will probably help

Thanks guys, the hard lines are already off, so no worries there. Guess I just need to get some penetrating oil like Starfury said and work a little harder to get the soft lines off.

I thought the soft lines screwed out of the sheet metal bracket, then I looked at my disc brake kit and realized the clip just holds them in the groove, not to mention my kit has brand new lines and sheet metal brackets, so all I have to do is remove the bracket from the frame and I'm done.

To my defense the bracket was completely caked with rust and grease, so it was hard to tell what was holding it on there, but still....

Yes, you just removed the clips and they slide out of the holder. I could have told you that earlier, since I did a 5 lug swap last weekend and had to remove those lines.

Wow, those are some clean looking frame rails.
