Engine Bay Project

Engine Bay Project
I am considering pulling the engine out of my 65 fastback and restoring the engine bay and also getting the engine on a stand to clean up / repaint, etc. I have a couple of manuals that describe how to best do this but am a little concerned with getting in over my head. How difficult would this job be for a novice mechanic - I have been able to do many repairs myself, but have never taken on this kind of project. I would be curious to hear opinions on the diffculty level of this. Thanks.

Another option is just to strip the motor down in the engine bay.. remove
Air cleaner
Carb
radiator
battery
cables
plug wires
pull back electrical wiring
remove alt, PS, etc and brackets
Then you can get to everything to clean and paint.

This is true....
Do you want to do custom paint work or just traditional black?
I will say it is not too hard, the hardest part is getting everything back together without damaging the paint IMO... You will have to drain fluids and remove wires... If you can be detailed enough to know how to put things back together it wont be an issue, you will need an engine hoist and a friend...

It's really not too hard. Just have a hoist, a friend who may or may not have pulled an engine before, a nice long flat screwdriver may be nice to have to help SOFTLY pry the bellhousing from the block, a jack to support the front end of the tranny, a "how to" book would be nice so you don't have to have someone tell you all the steps over and over and harping at you that you're doing it wrong
