Thumbs up 70 ish rear end tag decoding

My dad has a spare rear axle that we are hoping has lower gears than the one he is currently driving around on. It would appear to be a 9 inch.

The axle tag reads:

WCZ - VZ JKA

2 79 8 9308

Can anyone tell me what the gears are and what year its from?

Thanks in advance

From what I am reading it is 2.79 gear ratio 8in rear from a 68' cougar or mustang.

thanks, I just need to find out what ratio is in the car currently. It is way to high geared. Driving under 10-15 mph you can't let the clutch out all the way

seems like the car would go like 300 mph with these gears!!!!
